Artistic Genesis: Edward Hopper House Museum and Study Center and the Sites of the Historic Artists' Homes and Studios program of the National Trust for Historic Preservation.

Join this very special event to raise money for Edward Hopper House Museum & Study Center with Valerie Balint in conversation about how the Edward Hopper House Museum and Study Center provides a unique and rare opportunity to immerse oneself in the very birthplace of an artist's development. A visit to the museum represents a tangible touchstone to the signature light that will become a hallmark of Hopper's work throughout his career. This linkage of power of place to both artistic process and inspiration is present at many preserved artists' homes throughout the nation, which comprise the Historic Artists' Homes and Studios (HAHS) program of the National Trust for Historic Preservation.

Join Valerie Balint, senior program manager for HAHS in a discussion that places Edward Hopper, and his preserved childhood home, in the context of other preserved sites of major American visual artists. Discover the connections between Hopper, and other groundbreaking artists of their era whose homes are also open to the public. Balint's lecture will also touch upon her recently published, Guide to Historic Artists' Homes & Studios, the first guidebook featuring sites in the HAHS network. Twenty years ago, the National Trust for Historic Preservation created this program, which today includes 48 preserved artists' homes and studios throughout the country - across 22 states. In 2018, Edward Hopper House Museum & Study Center was accepted into membership of this prestigious coalition.
